  • Me and my words...

Welcome to the gaming blog of Heather Logas, game designer, writer/researcher and occasional artist. I am currently seeking game design opportunities in the San Francisco Bay Area. I live in El Cerrito, CA with my husband Terry and our baby girl Celia (who loves gaming controllers!). This is my kind of summer school

Kids + video games does not = juvenile delinquency. (Not neccessarily anyway).
When I first came back to San Francisco from Georgia and was looking for a job, a couple summer workshops for teaching about games caught my interest. Unfortunately they were mostly very 3D art based rather than game design based. But I think teaching kids game design would be alot of fun and also really educational on many levels for the kids. I’ve spent some time thinking about what sort of curriculum I’d roll out for them, depending on their age groups.

The Museum of the Moving Image
in New York is hosting very cool sounding summer workshops to teach games. What sounds really cool about it to me is that the kids will develop a game from concept all the way through, including design, art (2D it sounds like) and programming.

I love that games are becoming such an important and prevalent part of our society that even despite the Jack Thompsons and Hilary Clintons, parents would send their kids to workshops like these. I know I would!

Oh and here is a link to the software they’re using. I’d be really curious to see the outcome of these games!
